Stuck in Burbank

I suppose there are worse places to be stuck. We got to the Burbank airport today with all of our bags and kids and after getting inside we found out that our flight to Dallas was cancelled and we couldn't leave until the next day. So, we hopped a shuttle to the Holiday Inn and booked a suite for the night. Now we're watching Star Wars and waiting for some friends to show up. Weather is amazing and at least I'm away from my dusty house with no kitchen for one more night. I'm looking forward to getting home though and getting back to a semblence of normal life for a while. I have no more major trips planned until October so we'll be home for a while.

It's like a blur

This summer is sort of like a blur to me. I'm heading out tomorrow for one last trip. The family and I are going to California where I'll be speaking to a high school group for a week at Forest Home Ojai Valley in Ventura California. I'm pretty stoked to have the opportunity to take my family with me and to get to be with them at a camp. I love speaking to students and I'm guessing I'll have a great time.

Today I also got the new Harry Potter book and I'm plowing through that tonight instead of packing.

Lastly we are now two weeks into a major home remodel. We are without a kitchen and will be for about two months. Fun to see the project starting but a bit tough to not have a kitchen for such a long time. Maybe that's why I'm glad to be leaving again.

Back from Europe

Ok so I know I spelled something wrong. I'm tired. I've been on an airplane or walking through an airport for 24 hours. That's how long it takes to get back from Vienna. We had a great trip. Sure I got tired of some people but they equally got tired of me. The camp we ran in Romania was great and really challenged us in a good way. I loved the experience.

Now I'm back but only for 3 days. Leaving on Sunday with the whole family to go speak at a camp for a week.

4th of July

Awesome Parade in the Park Cities this morning. Nice that we only live 1 block from the parade route. Fun to live in a place with a small town feel.

A fun week.

At some point I will go ahead and post about the books I read on my cruise but first let me write about how great this week is. This is a week of connections with old friends. One of my closest friends James and his wife Rachel came to visit us yesterday. They live in Houston which isn't so far. It was good to see him. Today Emily and Melanie two girls from Danielle's senior small group in Carlsbad are flying out for 4 days. On Thursday one of my former students from San Diego, Mark is coming out and he's actually going on a trip with me to Romania. Then on Saturday the girls leave and one of our all time favorite people who was in our youth group in Los Angeles and interned for me in San Diego is coming out to go to the beach for a week with Danielle and the kids. (Yes there is a beach in Texas it's just a long ways away).

Then on next Monday we are starting a major remodel of our house and tearing out the kitchen, laundry room and a silly little room next to it. That will be a two month terror but how smart of us to be out of town for a big chunk of it.

Back

Just got back from the most relaxing amazing time of my life. Danielle and I ate too much, laid in the sun too long and became pretty lazy. More info tomorrow......
