Tonight I went to a Mavs game and watched them pummel the Golden State Warriors. While I was watching the game I spent a little bit of time thinking about the number of sporting events I've been to in the 20 years since I graduated with high school. During my reflection I realized that I have never paid for a single professional sporting event in my life. I realize that's a pretty big statement but I'm pretty sure its true. For many years when I live in Los Angeles I had access to a luxury box at the Staples Center and went to many LA Clippers games. I also went to quite a few Dodgers games. All of those were gifts from people in my church and the majority of them were done with students in my youth group. This trend continued when I was in San Diego and now living in Dallas.
As I write I realize that there was one season about 15 years ago that I bought a couple LA Clippers tickets so my post is not entirely true but at least since I have been married for 11 years I have never paid to watch a sporting event either professional or college.
I guess I've been lucky and have had some very generous people in my life. I also probably like watching events more on TV than live.
Anyways I went with 5 other guys tonight and it was really fun.
